 Florida
native Dorothy Hudson has shown her art widely along Florida’s
East Coast, at venues including the Figurative Show at
the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach; the A.E. “Bean” Backus
Gallery in Fort Pierce; the Art by the Sea Exhibition,
the Student Gallery at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Mueller
Center at Indian River Community College, and Scott Blair
Artist’s Vault, all in Vero Beach. She has received
numerous awards for her work, including, from the Backus Four-County
Competitive, a 2nd place in oil/acrylic with "Frank's
Not Here", 3rd place in Sculpture with "Torn Psyche",
3rd Place in Pastel/Mixed Media with "Cowfish" and
a number of honorable mentions; from the Treasure Coast
Competitive, a 3rd place oil/acrylic with "Radioactive"; and,
from the Vero Beach Art Club's Art by the Sea, an
Honorable Mention for “Fresh From Jongs”. Dorothy
designed the CD cover for a Florida blues band, the Dalai
Lamas, and has also been commissioned to provide menu design
and mural art to Ti Amo Sempre, an upscale restaurant in
Vero Beach.
Dorothy received formal training in art with Salvatore
LaRosa, among others, at the college leve l and since that
time has continued to develop her work through studies
with Albert Handel in Santa Fe and Kathleen Elsey in Sonoma,
California, among others, as well as at the Vero Beach
Museum of Art in Florida and Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New
Mexico. She
has particiapated in all of the Plein Air Paint Outs sponsored
by the Culutral Council of Indian River County and enjoys
painting both in plein air and in the studio. For
the past several years Dorothy has studied lost wax bronze
casting with Bob Coon.
As an artist, Florida native, and a longtime
real estate attorney, Dorothy is committed contributor
to her community. She is an active member of the Indian
River County Cultural Council and served for many years
on the Board of Zoning Adjustments & Appeals as well
as the Planning and Zoning Commission of Indian River County.
She has donated her art for sale in fundraising auctions
by local organizations including American Red Cross and
the Humane Society’s Cause for Paws. In
addition to making art in many media, she enjoys kayaking,
bird watching, gardening, and bike riding.
